Toronto dog and family photography at Underpass Park & Corktown Common

I am so excited to have discovered an amazing location in downtown Toronto for your dog and family photography sessions. It’s basically two locations in one - Underpass Park and Corktown Common

If you’re looking for photos that offer variety and combine an urban feel with photos featuring you and your dog amidst nature,  then look no further than these spaces right in downtown Toronto.

I found these locations by chance when I was commissioned by Marcus of Red Seal Bullies to photograph some of his amazing dogs.  He told me where he would like to have the session and that’s how I came across these locations.

Out first stop was Underpass Park, a rather unexpected recreational oasis, located in the midst of the former derelict and neglected complex of highway overpasses in the eastern part of Toronto’s downtown. Underneath these highway overpasses is now a vibrant and active recreational area with a children’s playground, basketball courts, skateboarding areas and a weekly farmers market.

What makes it amazing for dog and family photography sessions are the wall murals, where graffiti and street art on the pillars creates a vibrant urban gallery and colourful backdrop for a city photo session. This provides wonderful colour at any time of the year and cover in case it rains!

There are also gorgeous flat rocks, ideal for placing smaller dogs and for sitting for portraits.

Here are some photos of the bullies in Underpass Park.

Remember to scroll down to learn about the next of the two locations, Corktown Common.

After we had photographed the bullies around the park and on the surrounding rocks, we went to Corktown Common for the second part of our photo session, where we took photos amongst the lush greenery. This park is literally across the street from Underpass park.

Corktown Common is situated on former industrial lands, where a previously gritty wasteland has been transformed into a beautiful park featuring a marsh, lawn areas and urban prairies. With more than 700 trees and thousands of shrubs, groundcovers, and aquatic plants, Corktown Common is now a diversely planted habitat.

All of these features provide an amazing location for dog and family photography within nature, in the heart of downtown Toronto.

The photo session for Red Seal Bullies showcases the variety of themes for dog and family photography sessions that are available in one area,  right in the City of Toronto.

Where else in the city can you find urban space and greenery so close together?

If you are considering a dog and family photo session and would love a to get photos with a variety of backdrops, I highly recommend these locations.  Click below to discuss your photo session.
