Creative Ways to Display Framed Pet and Family Photos

You just got your pet and family photos taken and I know you’re excited to get the photos and decide how you are going to display them and enjoy them every day. As a Toronto based pet and family photographer I know just how confusing it can be to choose the right products to display the photos from your photography session.

While there are many amazing products that will allow you to enjoy your photos every day, for this article I’ll focus on framed prints because they are so versatile and there are so many ways to display your precious pet and family photos with framed prints.

Displaying framed pet and family photos in creative and meaningful ways not only adds a personal touch to our living spaces but also serves as a daily reminder of the love and happiness they bring into our lives.

Here are various ideas to showcase these cherished moments, transforming them into beautiful focal points that celebrate the bonds we share.

  1. Places to display framed pet and family photos in the home.

Main Living Rooms

These are places in your home are where your family gathers, perhaps the living room  or family room and dining room where you laugh, love and play together. Enhance these special places with pictures of the people and pets who make the house a home. Your family photos should be proudly displayed for your loved ones and guests to enjoy.

Transition Spaces

Transition spaces in a home are places such as hallways, stairways and walkways. Many people don’t put much thought into decorating transition spaces, which leaves a big opportunity to get creative with displaying your pet and family photos.

Because transition spaces may have unique designs, sometimes with long walls, narrow hallways or unique angles, smaller family photographs are often what works best. You may need to choose smaller sizes such as 5x7x-inch prints in 8x10- inch frames and then hang in a collage style across walls in these transition areas.

The photo below gives you another idea with mixed sized frames.

Offices, Bedrooms, Kitchens

Think of spaces other than your main living rooms such as offices and bedrooms and even kitchens.  Whether you’re concentrating a work project in the office or whipping up the the perfect dinner in the kitchen, looking up to see your pet and family photo will make everyone smile.

Many rooms feature shelving, desks or other types of organizational decor. Place your professionally printed photos in your favourite frames and display them on these surfaces rather than hanging on the walls. A few special photos really bring personality to these rooms.

Do you have a kitchen wall that needs some love? Your pet and family photos can look amazing there too!

2. Creative Ways to Display Framed Pet and Family Photo

  • Gallery Wall of Love

Create a stunning gallery wall by combining framed pet and family photos in a visually appealing arrangement. Choose a wall in your living room or hallway as the canvas for this heartwarming display. Mix and match different frame styles, sizes, and orientations to add an artistic flair. Arrange the photos in a symmetrical or eclectic pattern, allowing each frame to tell its own story. Consider adding personalized captions or small decorative elements that reflect the personalities of your loved ones.

I Love this gallery wall of this family with their pets! The different frame styles and sizes work well to add an artistic flair.

  • Shelf Displays

Utilize shelves to create a charming display of framed pet and family photos. Arrange a mix of framed photographs, along with small decorative items, on floating shelves, bookshelves, or wall-mounted display ledges. Vary the heights, sizes, and angles of the frames for an eye-catching arrangement. Intersperse the framed photos with small potted plants, trinkets, or favourite mementos to add a personal touch.

Framed prints on shelves along with decorative items can be a beautiful way to showcase your photos.

  • Pet Corner

Create a dedicated pet corner in your home, where your furry friends take centre stage. Choose a wall or a corner area and hang framed photos that capture special moments with your pets. Include frames of various sizes, incorporating both the close-up portraits and the action shots from pet and family your photography session.

I photographed this family and their dog at a Toronto park and I love how the photos on circular wood mounts make a cute little pet corner.

Displaying framed pet and family photos allows us to honour the special connections we share with our loved ones, both human and furry. Whether through gallery walls, collages or shelf displays these creative displays turn our cherished memories into beautiful works of art. By incorporating these ideas into our living spaces, we celebrate the joy, love, and happiness that our pets and family members bring into our lives, creating a heartwarming ambiance that truly feels like home.

No matter what you decide, you’ll enjoy having the images of the people and pets who matter most,  in the rooms where you live your daily life.

On the subject of frames, we don’t always have to think about physical framed prints. I wrote blog post discussing how we can use framing as a compositional technique for pet photography using elements of the scene to create a frame around your subject, in this case your pet.

In a related article, a member of our blog circle, NH based photographer Sandra McCarthy Photography shows you how to use elements in the environment to frame your photography subject.
